how does a radio dj… (Sunday October 7th, 2001 - 10:39)

category: mmhuh?

Insomnia’s bugging and listening to the radio in the early hours this morning I wondered if the radio djs have little slips attached to their CDs to say at what point the singing starts on a tune. A dj was talking away for awhile over the opening tune of a song and cut off just a second before the vocals began and I realised that they almost always manage that.

They might have heard the track a numerous times before but when you’re trying to tell the listeners about a competition and rattling off the details and phone number to call surely it would be hard to judge the speed of your speech without being able to look at a digital display knowing at which second you’ve got to have it all completed.

Or perhaps I’ve not listened enough to the radio recently and they often talk over vocals.

It just seemed so orchestrated in the early hours of this morning.
