It seems like yesterday I posted about starting uni education, but somehow three months have flown past and I’ve just submitted my final assignment for the unit. So it was only one wee little unit, and to get any sort of degree I’ve got to do plenty more, but it feels pretty nice to have got it over and done with (even if I don’t know the score.. but so far I’ve done okay.. in a few days I’ll start itching no doubt.. damn this immediacy our generation loves so much).
To realise that I can knuckle down and do some study in and around work is somehow life-affirming. Even if the study itself (Internet Communications) was related to my work (Web stuff). Even if I wanted to fall asleep at my desk a few times because I’d been too enthused with research the night before. Even if my gigs-per-week count has dropped dramatically.
With a few major projects at work in progress, and a (cough) holiday to America in April, I’ve decided to skip study for three months and get back to it in May. The only problem is not knowing what I want to study next. The idea of pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (Internet Studies) seems a little overwhelming at the moment so I’m contemplating that my next study unit just be for “fun”. Perhaps “Photography – An Introduction” – if I do decide to work towards a degree then it should fit in as one of my electives.
Hmm.. but for now, I think I’ll just breathe a sigh of relief that it’s over.
For anyone interested in online education, take a look at Open University.
Work + study is not easy. I’m halfway through a four-unit bit of paper (pretty much the lightest postgrad commitment) and have taken two semesters off (to move interstate). I have to find both the motivation and a new uni before semester two… 🙂
Yeah, fuck rock n roll.
It doesn’t really love you.
My friends just bought a competiton go-kart, we had to pick it up from Bega, it was waiting in the club garage, they let us test it before we put it in the car. Aaah, that conflicting feeling of not wanting to die and wanting to go faster with each lap.
Thats my future.
That and a TAFE Mecanic’s course.
