non-smokers, the manufacturers are coming to target you! (Friday February 28th, 2003 - 09:00)

Sitting in a pub the other night I noticed a packet of cigarettes with this warning message printed prominently on the back:

Obviously if you’ve bought the packet then you’ve already started smoking so this can only be written with the assumption that the smoker’s friends will take heed.

If the cigarette manufacturers realise that this sort of advertising works for non-smokers, perhaps we’ll soon start seeing promotions for upcoming feature films in the space not taken up by warnings, duty paid labels and logos. They’ll obviously need to keep bringing in some money for all those non-smokers they’re keeping from picking up the habit.
